Raising Wise Children
9 Raising wise children begins with a simple principle. Wise parents regard the Lord highly and teach their children to do the same. Teach this well and you give your children a foundation for all of life, an anchor that will hold them steady through the storms and a pair of glasses that will help them see clearly the only adequate world and life view. The Book of Proverbs begins with nine verses that serve as a prologue or introduction to the Book. These verses serve to unfold the purpose and theme of Proverbs. Here are the first seven of those verses: “The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: for attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young — let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance — for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.
