Raising Wise Children

16 Nebuchadnezzar, the most powerful man in the world when he reigned in Babylon of the ancient world, had a dream in which he saw a mighty tree felled by an axe-wielding angel. Only Daniel among all the wise men of Babylon could tell Nebuchadnezzar what the dream meant. He told the mighty King that God was going to strike him down because of his arrogance and pride. He would lose his kingdom and wander as a wild man, completely insane, until, Daniel told him, “…you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone he wishes.” Within the year, it happened just as Daniel had foretold. Later, Nebuchadnezzar recounted the entire story concluding with these verses: “At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation.
