Raising Wise Children

28 God's ordinance, are over us in place of authority, whether in family, Church, or commonwealth. You see, it is understood, the way you respect and honor your parents and grandparents prepares you for all the relationships you have in life! You learn to respect others by how you respect and honor your parents. Even our relationship with God himself is impacted by the relationship we, as children, first had with our parents. It is no wonder, then, that the writers of the Book of Proverbs focus quickly on the core truth of respecting authority. Here is the first step in raising children who are going to grow up respectful of judges, of government and elected officials, of their employers, or the police, or firemen, or teachers and others in places of authority. In closing this section, let’s look at a verse that comes later in the Book of Proverbs. “My son, give me your heart and let your eyes keep to my ways” (Proverbs 23:26, NIV).
